Priorities

Apparently, our campaign to "free" the world from oppression only applies to certain types of oppression. Oppression that involves hunger, starvation, and/or famine does not qualify as a priority.

I wonder why we cannot afford to honor our promises of aid...

Debt?

Tax cuts?

War?

McCain + 2008

Though it's not the most scientific method, I thought I would point out that today, December 21, 2004, a simple search of GoogleNews for "mccain 2008" produced 552 hits.

As if that alone was not blog-worthy, the substance of the articles is more important than the sheer number of hits.

CNN has this piece from December 13th.
NewsMax (yech!) has this piece from December 20th.
The best newspaper in the world has this piece from December 20th as well.

We the jury...

I won't take the time to fully explore yesterday's sentencing of Scott Peterson to death; at least not now. However, I wanted to share something that I recalled yesterday in the hours leading up to the announcement. The death penalty has -- for better or worse -- been a prevalent topic for discussion and debates in my young life. I must admit that I have changed my position/thought on the issue over the years for reasons that may surprise (some of) you. There are many powerful treatments of the subject out there -- including Dead Man Walking (book, film) and, on the topic of the role of race, portions of Closed Chambers -- but one has stood out above all others, and it is was this radio program that haunted me yesterday as we all readied for the Peterson sentence.
